"The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Cursillo

The Cursillo Movement has the same apostolic purpose of the Church itself. A Cursillo Weekend begins on Thursday evening and concludes on Sunday afternoon. During the three-day encounter the teaching of Christ and the Church are presented in a joyful and challenging atmosphere.

Regular meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month (alternating between St. John's and Holy Martyrs Parish in Bradford). Information nights are held prior to Cursillo weekends.

Italian Social Group

This group was founded to provide support for the Italian community in the Newmarket, Aurora and Bradford areas. The elderly, shut-ins, physically challenged, and the lonely are particularly welcomed. We will provide good company, conversation, food, crafts, cards, and tombola.

Each Wednesday of every week from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. up to 60 members enjoy the company of other Italians in activities in the Parish Centre of St. John Chrysostom. They are provided with refreshments, plus a hot meal Italian Style.

Anyone interested in joining the group or has a relative that could benefit from this group please contact the President Angela Tangreda at (905) 898-5944 or Maria De Simone at (905) 895-9665.

10th Anniversary Celebration

Recently the Italian Social Group celebrated their 10th Anniversary in good style with a social evening gathering of members, family and friends. Pictures of the event are posted in Parish Photo Album 133.

Small Christian Communities

The Catholic parish can be a large and sometimes anonymous place. In response to this, some parishioners at St. John's have begun to meet in smaller, more intimate settings. There are currently three small Christian community groups which meet in the parish. These provide a place where parishioners can share their faith, reflect on Scripture and support one another in their Christian journey.

Each group has a different time and place for meeting. If you are interested, contact one of the coordinators and they may be able to help you find the community that best suits your needs.
