  PARISH  NEWS

  • Rite of Call
    Confirmation preparation is well underway and this weekend we will be welcoming this years’ confirmandii during the Rite of Call to confirmation at all the masses. Please keep these young people in your prayers as they make the journey into adulthood.
     

  • New Parishioners Welcome
    The next Welcome Sunday for new parishioners will be February 26 after the 10 am mass. Refreshments will be served after mass in the Gathering Room. New parishioners can register through our website, by calling the parish office or filling out a registration form located at the back of the church. Please see one of the priests after mass in the next couple of weeks to have your picture taken so that we can display it on the overhead on that weekend.
     

  • Refugee Sponsorship
    The past few years have been extremely difficult for Christians and other minorities in Iraq. In the spring of 2009, our parish sponsored Rawaa’s family who were refugees from Baghdad. They arrived in May 2010 and are doing well in Canada.


    Our parish is now ready to take on another sponsorship. With the approval of Fr. Bob, the parish finance council and the Archdiocese, we have taken on the sponsorship of a family of six from Iraq – father, mother, grandmother and three school-aged children. They are currently living as refugees in Damascus.
    Please pray for their well-being and safety until they arrive in Canada. There are envelopes available for tax deductible donations to support this sponsorship. Thank you in advance for your help and prayers.

  • Marriage Preparation Course
    Couples who wish to get married in the Catholic Church must complete a mandatory Marriage Preparation course before their marriage.  St. John Chrysostom Parish will be offering this course in the Parish Centre on Monday, February 20 from 7-10 pm, Thursday, February 23 from 7-10 pm and Saturday, February 25 from 9:30 - 3:30 pm.  In order to register for the course please call the office at 905-898-4137.   • Community Bible Study
    Join us for an inspiring twelve-week series of readings, discussions and fellowship with Christians from many different churches of our times as we explore and pray the book of Psalms using the Interpretation Bible Studies on Psalms by Jerome Creach. We meet Thursday mornings from 9:15 – 11:30 am starting on January 26, at Trinity United Church, Newmarket. For more information please call the office.
     

  • Parish Mission / Easter Choir
    Now is the time to join the parish choir if you would like to sing at the nationally televised Parish Mission in March, and at our Easter celebrations in April. We begin learning our music for these occasions now! So if you want to sing, please join the choir for rehearsal on Wednesday nights at 7:30. The only qualification is that you be able to carry a tune!

  • Considering becoming a Catholic?
    Each year, a number of people feel called by God to join the Catholic community. To help people discover if God is calling them in this direction, St. John Chrysostom parish offers an inquiry group that meets each week on Thursdays at 7:30 pm. This is a non-judgmental, non-threatening, welcoming place for people to come and ask questions about the church. If you are interested in learning more about this process, please contact the parish.
