St. John Chrysostom

was born in 347 CE in Antioch. Because of his exceptional speaking ability, he earned the title Chrysostom - which means "golden mouthed." He was headed for a promising career in law but after his baptism at the age of 23, he decided to enter the priesthood.

Lamb of God

At the beginning of the summer we began singing the "call and response" Lamb of God by Matt Maher at all the weekend masses.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Latin text, here it is below. And below that you'll find a recording of the piece on YouTube.

The text in bold is the text we sing in this particular version.

Lamb of God,

you take away the sin of

the world,

have mercy on us. (twice)

Lamb of God,

you take away the sin of

the world,

grant us peace.

Agnus Dei,

qui tolis peccata

mundi,

miserere nobis.  (twice)

Agnus Dei,

qui tolis peccata

mundi,

dona nobis pacem.

Here is the full recording of the Matt Maher
Lamb of God
from YouTube.

Backpack Program
Each year, the York Region Food Network coordinates a Backpack Program that provides basic school supplies directly to children living in low-income families through food banks. This practical support enhances children’s self-esteem and reduces stress in parents struggling with the cost of school supplies while living on limited income.

The CWL is continuing their support of this very important program by collecting items for these backpacks. You can drop off items at any time in the Stained Glass Room for collection by the CWL. We require new items only, such as backpacks, binders, paper, pencils, coloured pencils, erasers, pens, and pencil cases. Younger children need crayons and high school students need scientific calculators and math sets.

We thank you in anticipation of your generous response to the needs of the children.

Welcome Deacon Michael Miranda
On Saturday May 29, at St. Michael’s Cathedral, Michael Miranda was ordained to the diaconate. We welcome him and his family to our parish community and look forward to getting to know him as he begins his duties as deacon here at St. John’s assisting during the mass, preaching and performing baptisms.

Some pictures of the ordination are found in our Parish Photo Album #126

Supporting St. John's Parish

The Work of St. John's is made possible through the generosity of its' parishioners. The parish Pre-Authorized Giving plan may be a good choice for you.

  • Who looks after the plan?

  • Why should I participate?

  • How do I enroll?

These and other questions are answered in our new Pre-Authorized Giving pamphlet. You can see more information and download the PDF flyer from the Administration Page.

Weekly Donations
We would like to advise those parishioners who have not picked up their 2010 donation envelopes, that your envelopes will now be reassigned. If you have any old envelopes left from 2009 please do not use them anymore otherwise, your donations will be recorded under the new owner of the envelopes.

We would also like to remind everyone that you may sign up for Pre-Authorized Giving at any time of year. This is a very convenient way to support your parish even in your absence. The flyer is available at the back of the church, at the office or can be downloaded from the Administration Page.
